A multi-disciplinary dance performance that will capture the essence and raw emotion of relationships that define our lives.
Hartel Dance Group is raising $5,000.00 to foster the evolution and debut of “What’s love got to do with it?,” an evening-length, integrative dance performance, which will zoom in on relationships of all breeds, turning them inside out. Our campaign is just a small step toward a total seasonal budget of $21,000.00.
The company has been invited to premiere excerpts of “WLGTDWI?”at the prestigious Brincos International Dance Festival in Guatemala City, September 13th-16th. Sending HDG’s six dancers and two-man artistic team to Guatemala will cost more than the honorarium provided by the festival. We are thrilled with the prospect of representing Oklahoma and the United States at this festival, but we need your help to get us there!
Following these performances in Central America, HDG will present two evenings of “WLGTDWI?” in full at Oklahoma Contemporary on November 8th and 9th.
Artistic Director, Austin Hartel is an award winning, internationally acclaimed choreographer who has been presenting his unique brand of dance on stages worldwide for over 25 years.
His vision for “What’s love got to do with it?” will weave together many facets of connection, networks, and rituals that define our lives. Journeying through life, we inherently create relationships—some lasting, some passing, and some that impact us in the most transformative of ways. We have more means to access human connection than any generation past. Yet for some reason, there remains a cold undercurrent of isolation, loneliness, and separation that bridles many of our experiences—whether we are aware of it or not. All humanity craves acceptance and love, but Hartel poses the well-known question, “What’s love got to do with it?” While love is a powerful, deep-seated emotion, active relationships do not flourish on love alone.
