Garden Works: Music for soloists, released on February 11, 2022 and visit Bandcamp today to see all of Nicholas Chase’s artist-direct works on Bandcamp along with his Cold Blue Music release “Bhajan” as well.

Garden Works features two beautiful recordings from the early 2K’s: Rugosa Rose, a modular piece for violin commissioned and performed by Mark Menzies. This is a special recording performed in Amy Knoles’ (percussion/California E.A.R. Unit) intimate studio space north of Los Angeles on Menzie’s Guarneri model violin with gut strings. Since the work is modular it can be any length and take any number of different forms, so it appears twice in variation on this recording.

Woad for Indigo was commissioned by Trevor Berens (Sonic Liberation Players, out of Boston) and recorded with funding from the American Composers Forum, LA, at the infamous Signature Studios in La Jolla, CA. It’s an acrobatic, 26-minute opus that Berens realized beautifully in the studio whilst his live performances of Woad kept audiences on the edge of their seats!

This digital-only release of Garden Works is accompanied by a .pdf booklet including notes about each piece, the unique recording process that makes this recording unique, and visual references from the musical scores.

Simultaneous with the recording I’ll make performance scores of both works available for the first time, also on Bandcamp. Purchasing a performance license and score includes the relevant recording from Garden Works for reference.

This is the first of Nicholas Chase’s works coming out in 2022. He has other projects and performances planned, stay tuned as many of these projects will appear beyond Bandcamp.
