Berlin & Beyond Film Festival, the Americas’ leading festival of contemporary German cinema, celebrates its 20th Anniversary this January 2016. Following the main San Francisco festival at the world-famous Castro Theatre and the Goethe-Institut, Berlin & Beyond will present its first series in California’s Central Valley at the University of the Pacific’s Janet Leigh Theatre in Stockton, the hometown of Berlin & Beyond’s Festival Director Sophoan Sorn.

Join us for a full day of great cinema from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

  • 11AM — Shorts Program featuring the three winners of Foreign category of the 2015 Student Academy Awards:
  1. Fidelity (Sadakat) — Dir. Ilker Çatak
  2. Everything Will Be Okay (Alles wird gut) — Dir. Patrick Vollrath
  3. The Last Will (Erledigung einer Sache) — Dir. Dustin Loose

Welcome to the 20th Berlin & Beyond Film Festival! Join us in celebrating our two-decade-long legacy as America’s leading annual showcase of new films from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and beyond.

Since 1996, the festival has been a cultural gateway for the public to experience the universal spirit and vision of filmmakers from this global region. Each year, our red carpet premieres at the legendary Castro Theatre introduce Europe’s top talents to San Francisco audiences as the projector unfurls blockbuster hits, award winners, and timely dispatches from world cinema’s furthest corners.
