ArtsEarth presents Afternoon once-a-month featuring the best in the arts from the San Francisco Bay Area and internationally.

In February, Afternoon is featuring four premiere San Francisco Bay Area poets with music accompaniment.

  • Paul Corman-Roberts — poet
  • Nancy Davenport — poet
  • Gabe Gusman — poet
  • Bill Leikam — poet

Paul Corman-Roberts is the author of the chapbook collection ‘We Shoot Typewriters’ from Nomadic Press (2015.) His forthcoming book is ‘In the Teeth of a Hungry God” from Indigent Press. He is a core-founder of the Beast Crawl Literary Festival in Oakland.

Nancy P. Davenport’s poems have appeared in The Burning Grape, Mountain Gazette, The Bicycle Review, Haight-Ashbury Literary Journal, The Lilliput Review, Blue Fifth Review, Poetry Quarterly, Red Fez, Full of Crow, Mayday, City Lit Rag, I am not a Silent Poet, The Lake, and Yellow Chair Review. She’s had poems included in three anthologies, and poems translated into Spanish and German. Nancy’s chapbook, LA Briizna, was published in May, 2014; she is currently working on her second book, Smoked Glass.

G. Macias Gusman is from Davenport, Iowa; Birthplace of Bix Beiderbecke and the Death place of Cary Grant. Some boy’s dream of becoming Doctors, Fry Cooks, Astronauts, Garbage Men, Lawyers, Thieves, Hired Goons or Bakers; G Macias Gusman has always dreamt of being a romantic gorilliarean prose poet. So after years of being a busboy, cook, stoner, factory worker, lazy guy, salesmen, carpenter, dealer, welder, and teacher; everything but a poet… this father is trying to prove to himself and his son that reaching and falling for a dream is far better than grabbing and falling for nothing.

As a young man, Bill Leikam began writing poetry while attending San Jose State University. Before graduating, several of his poems were published in “Reed Magazine.” In his early career as a poet he read with such luminaries as Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Eric “Big Daddy” Nord, Nils Peterson, and others. During the 1970’s, he devoted most of his writing to novels and non-fiction. In the late-1980’s, he was asked to perform his poetry in San Francisco. In the 1990’s, his reputation spread taking him from Los Angeles to Portland Oregon and to Trento Italy where his poetry was performed and recorded. He has been published in a wide variety of genres: Scientific research papers that were presented at universities and research centers in the People’s Republic of China as well as at academic conferences in the United States, jazz and blues interviews published in music magazines globally, a novel, short stories and poetry. Bill’s writings have been published in 28 languages worldwide.
