Ruby/Lesley Rankine is back with a new sound and a new set of scorching songs, performed along-side arresting visuals from Berlin film maker Ceven Knowles. Best known for her acclaimed album, the influential downtempo/trip-hop “Salt Peter”, this will be the first totally solo outing for her new material after releasing the 2014 album “Waiting for Light”.
“…one of the most openly compelling, resolute and provocative women recording music today.” (Imran Khan, Pop Matters)
Lesley is joined by Scottish/Burmese electronica artist Fiona Soe Paing, who performs her mesmerising live gig/cinema hybrid show “Alien Lullabies” combining off-world electronica and live vocals with surreal 3D animation by collaborator Zennor Alexander.
“Unutterably cool, darkly alluring, fascinatingly inventive” (David Kettle, The Scotsman)
Followers of the Cornish music scene will be familiar with the elusive sisters who have spent most of the last 18 months making music as Hockeysmith, while splitting their time between a bus on a farm in Falmouth, Cornwall and Copenhagen, Denmark.
Their debut EP ‘But Blood’ came out in 2014 and saw them making a name and piquing interest for their exploratory sonic palette, hauntingly idiosyncratic songs and pulsing, strobing live shows, which has led to features and profiles by outlets ranging from The Fader and Interview Magazine to Dazed And Confused, SPIN and The Guardian.
Hockeysmith now have a full band line up with musicians from Copenhagen and will be performing songs from their forthcoming EP.
