“Smooth and Melodic Tango Steps, Technique and Musicality”

Following up on the June 8 workshop, we will study how to contrast rhythmic and melodic sections in tango music. Focus will be on smooth turns, walks and other figures. and the necessary follower&leader technique, footwork and embellishments.

No partner required. We will rotate partners unless you bring your own.

María Blanco: A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Maria began dancing at the age of six, studying ballet and modern dance. Her professional career as an Argentine Tango dancer began in 2003. In Buenos Aires she worked as the main tango instructor and event organizer at exclusive hotels such as the Faena , Four Seasons, Alvear and Sofitel. She directed and choreographed shows in Argentina and Uruguay. An important part of her career has always been performing for TV advertisements such as Panasonic, Dj Hero and Coca Cola combining both her dancing and acting skills.

Guillermo García: A tango guitarist and dancer from Argentina, Guillermo García was one of the first tango musicians in the San Francisco Bay Area. He recorded one of the first tango albums produced in the Bay Area and performed with his band Flor de Tango between 1996 and 2000. He then co-founded Trio Garufa in 2001, recording three more albums and touring the USA, Canada, Argentina, Colombia, Switzerland, Germany and Italy. He has performed at renowned Buenos Aires milongas such as Salón Canning, Confitería Ideal, La Viruta, La Catedral and Villa Malcolm, and played concerts at Chicago Symphony Hall, Yoshi’s Jazz Club, Francis Ford Coppola’s Inglenook Mansion, Getty Mansion, Teatro Zinzanni, the West Coast Live radio show, and the Oregon Bach Festival.
