Tango star Maria Blanco from Buenos Aires joins Guillermo García’s weekly milonga traspié class in June!

We will be focusing on a lot of new material based on María’s input. This is a great opportunity for followers to learn a lot of milonga footwork and styling, and leaders to get feedback from a world-class performer and teacher.

The format of the class will remain the same, with a first 30-min section on technique to make traspié steps easy and comfortable, and the remaining hour focused on steps, understanding the music and being musically expressive, and lead&follow technique.

We usually play some additional music at the end of the class for you to keep practicing. In this class we move a lot and don’t talk too much, so come prepared to work in a focused study environment.

No partner required. We will use partner rotation unless you bring your own. All levels (we scale the exercises and figures to your level and make sure everybody works hard enough).

María Blanco: A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Maria began dancing at the age of six, studying ballet and modern dance. Her professional career as an Argentine Tango dancer began in 2003. In Buenos Aires she worked as the main tango instructor and event organizer at exclusive hotels such as the Faena , Four Seasons, Alvear and Sofitel. She directed and choreographed shows in Argentina and Uruguay. An important part of her career has always been performing for TV advertisements such as Panasonic, Dj Hero and Coca Cola combining both her dancing and acting skills.

Guillermo García: A tango guitarist and dancer from Argentina, Guillermo García was one of the first tango musicians in the San Francisco Bay Area. He recorded one of the first tango albums produced in the Bay Area and performed with his band Flor de Tango between 1996 and 2000. He then co-founded Trio Garufa in 2001, recording three more albums and touring the USA, Canada, Argentina, Colombia, Switzerland, Germany and Italy. He has performed at renowned Buenos Aires milongas such as Salón Canning, Confitería Ideal, La Viruta, La Catedral and Villa Malcolm, and played concerts at Chicago Symphony Hall, Yoshi’s Jazz Club, Francis Ford Coppola’s Inglenook Mansion, Getty Mansion, Teatro Zinzanni, the West Coast Live radio show, and the Oregon Bach Festival.
