Pro Arts Gallery is excited to announce the third of its Hybrid Series events, curated to blur the traditional boundaries between artistic disciplines and bring together artists, working across diverse range of media. The Hybrid Series #3 includes a performance by Berkeley based musician, Christina Stanley, a video presentation by theater performance company Mugwumpin, and talk by curator Samantha Reynolds.

Christina Stanley began piano at 5 and violin studies at the age of 8. she attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music from ages 15-18 where she studied with Li Lin and eventually earned a full performance scholarship to San Francisco State University where she earned her Bachelors of Music and studied violin with Daniel Kobialka, Jassen Toderov and the Alexander String Quartet. After touring Europe and the US with various music groups, she attended HB studio in New York City where she studied theatre,dance and voice for two years. She then went on to earn an MFA in Music Performance and Literature from Mills College, where she studied violin with David Abel,composition and improvisation with Fred Frith and Roscoe Mitchell. She is currently an active performing musician working as a solo artist and as a member of various groups. She has performed and recorded as a member of SF Sound and ROVA Quartet. She has been a featured Solo performer for the San Francisco Electronic Music Festival, a vocalist for the William Winant percussion ensemble, and has premiered works by George Lewis and Roscoe Mitchell for Mutable Music under conductor Petr Kotik.

Mugwumpin gives us a video preview of their new interactive performance piece, Luster, a performance and photography installation designed to manifest audience participants’ ideals of beauty and glamour.

A native Chicagoan, Samantha Reynolds recently completed her master’s degree at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) in the Arts Administration & Policy department. Here,she worked on a variety of curatorial projects and researched the adaptive and resilient nature of cultural organizations

Prior to moving to the Bay Area, Reynolds worked as the Curatorial Fellow at Hyde Park Art Center focusing predominantly on the biennial exhibition, Ground Floor – which features recent MFA graduates from five Chicago universities. While there, she also served as the Interim Residency Manager, working with visiting international artists to develop research-based projects, public programs and connect with various cultural communities. Outside of Pro Arts, Reynolds continues to be involved in a variety of curatorial projects focusing on emerging and experimental artist practices in the Bay Area.
