clipping. are an experimental rap music trio, consisting of one rapper (Daveed Diggs) and two electronic musicians (William Hutson and Jonathan Snipes). In 2013, the band self-released their first album, Midcity, and followed that in 2014 with CLPPNG, their debut for Sub Pop Records.

Tujurikkuja | Hoofing it across a barren landscape of static, broken drones, alternating tones, hiss and feedback, Tujurikkuja strive to bring the sound from inside the machines to the outside world. The static of loose wires crossing, dusty, crust-filled dials being turned, the churn of the motor from an old tape deck. Joshua Kit Clayton and Chris Dixon join together periodically to coax squeals and wheezes out of once noble gear meant for so much better. Recommended if you like the inside of a refrigerator, being locked in the trunk of a car or the Detroit Railroad Station.

Madalyn Merkey creates sound events with simple sonic material—voice, sine waves, and pulses—to generate lush synthetic environments with the aid of acoustic readings from microphones and sensors. She has performed solo computer music compositions at Yale Union, Issue Project Room, and Block Cinema, and designed sound installations for Robert Irwin’s Central Garden at the Getty Center in Los Angeles. Merkey is the English translator of the Italian music text Due scuole di musica elettronica in Italia (Die Schachtel, 2016), written by composer Enore Zaffiri and published in Milan originally by Silva Editore in 1968. Recordings of her work Scent (2012) and Valley Girl (2014) are available on New Images Ltd.

The San Francisco Electronic Music Festival is an artist-run organization founded in 1999 by a committee of eight Bay Area electro-acoustic music and sound art practitioners. Its mission is to provide a highly visible public forum for the diverse community of composers and sound artists working with electronic-based technologies in the Bay Area. Designed as an annual multi-day event consisting of concerts, installations and discussions, the primary focus is on independent artists whose innovative aesthetics challenge academic and commercial standards. The Committee’s goals are long-term: to establish the festival as an annual presence in the Bay Area; to foster a greater sense of community among the diverse group of Bay Area sound artists; to stimulate the creation of new electronic sound works; to increase public awareness of new sound-based technologies and their creative applications; to raise the level of discourse surrounding music and sound-art; and to raise the national and international profile of the Bay Area as a center for electronic music and sound art.
