Community Music Center welcomes the public to our Mission District Branch to try out an instrument or a class for free on CMC Sundays! This CMC Sunday, sample some of the amazing music that we have to offer:

For Kids

  • 3:00 – 4:00pm Music for Children demo class with Irene Chagall
  • 4:00 – 5:00pm Instrument Petting Zoo
  • 3:00 – 5:00pm Demo Guitar Lessons with Will Ludan
  • 3:00 – 5:00pm Demo Piano Lessons with Kristine Zhang

For Adults

  • 3:00 – 4:00pm Open Rehearsal for the CMC’s Field Day String Orchestra!
    Directed by CMC faculty, Loretta Taylor
    Calling CMC string students, alumni, staff, board members and friends!  You are invited to participate in an open rehearsal for CMC’s Field Day Orchestra which will play at CMC’s 95th birthday celebration on the afternoon of November 20, 2016. The orchestra will play J. S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, First Movement – Abridged, adapted and arranged by Merle J. Isaac.  Please download the music and bring it to rehearsal. RSVP by emailing Sylvia Sherman at SSherman@sfcmc.org.

  • 4:00 – 5:00pm Open Rehearsal for CMC’s Field Day Choir!
    Directed by CMC faculty, Martha Rodriguez Salazar and accompanied by Jennifer Peringer
    Calling CMC students, alumni, staff, board members and friends!  You are invited to participate in an open rehearsal for CMC’s Field Day Choir which will perform excerpts from Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” at CMC’s 95th birthday celebration on the afternoon of November 20, 2016.  Please download the music here and bring it to rehearsal. RSVP by emailing Sylvia Sherman at SSherman@sfcmc.org.
  • 3:00 – 4:00pm Anything Goes Chorus II Vocal Workshop: Harmonies
    Led by Ellen Robinson, Anything Goes Chorus Director, this session will have a focus on jazz and Broadway songs in three and four part harmonies. Sight singing ability is helpful. This session will give singers an idea of what happens in Anything Goes Chorus II at CMC.
  • 4:00 – 5:00pm Anything Goes Chorus I Vocal Workshop: Singing in unison and rounds
    Led by Ellen Robinson, Anything Goes Chorus Director, this session is open to all voices and will focus on pop and folk music. The group will sing songs in unison and do partner songs and rounds that create instant harmony. This session will give singers an idea of what happens in Anything Goes Chorus I  at CMC.
  • 3:00 – 4:00pm Djangology 101 Demo Class with Scott Feichter
    Djangology 101, a new class at CMC, focuses on what has become known as “Gypsy Jazz.”  During this open session, we will read through music that was popular in the world of Parisian Hot Jazz circa 1935. Open to woodwinds, strings, guitars, and accordionists.

  • 4:00 – 5:00pm Jazz Jam with Charlie Gurke, CMC Jazz Ensemble Director
  • 3:00 – 5:00pm Demo Guitar Lessons with Will Ludan
  • 3:00 – 5:00pm Demo Piano Lessons with Kristine Zhang
