“A one-woman musical hurricane.” Otago Times, New Zealand. Voice and electronics artist Amy X Neuburg will perform from her repertoire of fun, funny, irreverent, intense and sometimes heartbreaking ‘avant-cabaret’ songs. Amy plays electronic drums and builds up layers of her voice to create choruses of harmonies, rhythms, and textures, using language and vocalisms in completely original ways, and singing with every part of her 4-octave range.
One of the earliest performers to work with live digital looping, Ms. Neuburg has played at such diverse venues as the Other Minds and Bang on a Can new music festivals, the Berlin International Poetry Festival, the Wellington and Christchurch Jazz Festivals (New Zealand), the Warsaw Philharmonic Hall, electronic music festivals, rock clubs and concert halls throughout the U.S. and abroad. A sought-after composer as well as an accomplished singer and technician, recent commissions include the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, the Paul Dresher Ensemble and Solstice vocal ensemble. Her song cycle “The Secret Language of Subways” for voice, cello trio and electronics has played at YBCA, the San Francisco Symphony After Hours, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Left Coast Festival. Her many grants and honors include Arts International, The Gerbode Foundation, and the Alpert/Ucross residency prize.
