What makes Oakland’s Redwood Tango Ensemble a hit with movers and shakers? Deep knowledge of traditional tango and a setlist that uses high-energy waltzes, tangos, and milongas to bridge the gap between chamber music and contemporary tango.
Featuring
- Charles Gorczynski – bandoneon
- Elyse Weakley – piano
- Anton Estaniel – cello
- Kendra Vernon – violin
- Mia Bella D’Augelli – violin
- Daniel Fabricant – double bass
Dedicated to the study and performance of traditional Argentine tango music, Redwood Tango Ensemble has played hundreds of milongas (social dance events) since their inception in 2011. Led by composer/bandoneon player Charles Gorczynski, the ensemble tours regularly as the full sextet, in various trios, or as Maldito Tango Duo, a bandoneon/guitar pair. Redwood Tango Ensemble has also released two albums, including this year’s critically acclaimed Unison.
