Ensemble 212 presents Cultural Convergences: Inspired by the Land of the Morning Calm, an evening of all-new music influenced by the dance, poetry, and spirituality of Korea.
This unique concert will feature a world premiere concerto specially written for New York Philharmonic violinist Joo Young Oh by Korean-American Composer in Residence James Ra. Contrasting the violin concerto are two New York premieres of concertos writtenfor Soo Yeon Lyuh, fresh off her collaboration with the Kronos Quartet and renowned for her masterful interpretations of new works written for the haegeum, a two-stringed Korean fiddle, by University of Hawaii composers Donald Womack and Thomas Osborne.
Cultural Convergences bridges the traditional and contemporary with Western and non-Western, a true reflection of our multicultural society.
