George Zisiadis and Ben Davis/Illuminate – LIGHTRAIL

Illuminate, the non-profit behind The Bay Lights, has partnered with artists George Zisiadis and Stefano Corazza to bring a monumental, two-mile LED artwork to Market Street. Called LIGHTRAIL, its goal is to catalyze a brighter future for San Francisco’s most important civic space. With the installation fully permitted by the city, Illuminate and the community is raising the $10M needed to make LIGHTRAIL a reality by sharing the vision with as many people as possible. This immersive demonstration will take you on a magical tour of Market St’s past and let you glimpse its wonder-filled future.

George Zisiadis is an artist and designer who wants to make you smile. He creates things that are fun and wonderful. His public artworks playfully re-imagine the everyday and have been exhibited across the United States. He’s currently working on the next big thing.

Ben Davis is the visionary behind The Bay Lights, asking in September 2010, “What if the Bay Bridge were a canvas of light?” He is the founder and CEO of Illuminate, which rallies large groups of people together to create impossible works of public art which, through awe, free humanity’s better nature.

Sasha Harris-Cronin – A Tactile Interface for Everybody

When the SF Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired were designing their new headquarters in midtown, they decided that they wanted their 11 high end conference spaces to be fully accessible and controllable by folks of all levels of vision. Sasha and her company, BBI Engineering, spent over a year working with the Lighthouse designing, testing, and iterating a fully tactile interface that everyone can use. BBI Engineering did everything in-house: design, electronics, custom programming, and fabrication.

Sasha has been working for BBI Engineering since 2002 with the catch-all title of “lead creative programmer.” She specializes in exhibits and experiences that fall in the realm of physical computing. At various times, she is everything from project manager to interaction designer to programmer or technologist. Once upon a time she was an artist, but currently teaches Interaction Design in the graduate design department at California College for the Arts. She graduated from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) in 2001. When not working, teaching, or parenting, Sasha does local anti-racism activism and organizing.

Alex Glow – The Exploitation of Adorable

What features manipulate our emotional response to a robot? How are we taught to interact with it? What ramifications will these have as robots proliferate?

Alex builds robots, wearable tech, languages, and music. Currently the Hardware Nerd at Hackster.io, she is a veteran of All Hands Active and Noisebridge hackerspaces, as well as Autodesk’s Pier 9.
