Week 2 | June 5-9 | Jeffrey Gibson

Multimedia artist Jeffrey Gibson is well known for his beaded panels, which include music lyrics that influenced him as a young adult and still do today. His interest in his Native heritage is represented throughout his 2-D and 3-D works. Whole Foods Market will provide free healthy snacks for all summer camps.

jumpstART: Pre-K–K | Alison Harris

New to Oklahoma Contemporary, jumpstART will get your pre-k or kindergartener up and moving with art! This half-day program will include exciting music, motion and visual art activities that will nurture your budding artist! JumpstART runs 9 a.m.-noon.

Grades K-1 | Color Mix-Up | Annie Doan

In a world full of color and beauty, what’s not to love? Inspired by the current exhibition, campers will explore the style of Jeffrey Gibson while learning about elements of design. Using mixed media, young artists will create colorful masterpieces of their own!

Grades K-1 | Movement and Imagination | Leslie Hensley

This camp will combine performance and self-expression inspired by Jeffrey Gibson’s love for movement and color. Along with mixed-media, explosive-color visual art, campers will explore movement by constructing kinetic wearable art!

Grades 2-4 | Native Symbols | Victoria Nevarez

By discussing Native American symbols of the past and present, we will explore symbols that represent our society today. We will incorporate our current experiences, including friendships and family, to create and explore the ways in which they have been and can be portrayed in art. Projects include creating a winter count calendar, making a playable flute and crafting beautiful beadwork worn by men and women.

Grades 2-4 | Puzzling Masterpiece | Debbie Elledge

Triangles, circles and squares, oh my! What will we do with them? Every project will be like solving a puzzle. What kind of line shows motion, calm or tension? Do certain colors make us feel different? Amazing creations such as collage, a feathered mobile and a shadow box will be taken home at the end of the week.

Grades 5-6 | Vibez and Verses | Candace Liger

Dance vibez and verses is a movement- and performance-based program showcasing Dancehall and Afrobeat styles, originating in Jamaica and West African, and infusing spoken word for a full-body creative experience. At week’s end, students will complete a dance routine and perform an original poem at Friday’s Camp Contemporary Showcase.
