Ani Choying is a Nepalese Buddhist nun and musician from the Nagi Gompa nunnery in Nepal. She is known in Nepal and throughout the world for bringing many Tibetan Buddhist chants and songs to mainstream audiences. She has been recently appointed as the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador to Nepal.

Ani Choying is an exceptional singer, admired by fans in Nepal and throughout the world. People are moved to tears by the plaintive purity of her voice, and the haunting melodies of her ancient songs and hymns, passed from master to pupil for many centuries.

Born in Nepal to Tibetan refugee parents, Drolma’s rise from teenage nun to international music star is the stuff of fairytales. Her prolific philanthropic work and subsequent role as Nepal’s first UNICEF national ambassador has earned her comparisons to India’s Mother Teresa.

At the age of 13, Ani joined Nagi Gompa, a Buddhist nunnery on Shivapuri Mountain on the northern slope of the Kathmandu valley. Her education and spiritual training was supervised by the renowned master, Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche. She was educated in Buddhist meditation, chants, rituals and ceremonies and quickly advanced to the position of the chanting master in the nunnery.

As an internationally reputed singer of Buddhist hymns and chants who has toured extensively in North America and Europe. A philanthropist dedicated to the welfare of Buddhist nuns, who founded the Arya Tara School in the year 2000 for nuns. The school runs with the help of proceeds from her concerts tours, CD sales and donation.

This auspicious event is being held at the exquisite First Congregational Church in Oakland, where there will be three ticketing choices. Balcony seating (excellent) and the left and right side sections of the floor will be $35. The center sections of floor area will be $65. Gold circle seating is right in front of the stage, for $95, and will allow ticket holders to attend a V.I.P. reception after the concert for a “meet’n’greet & photograph with Ani”, and an autographed poster!
