The West Coast Contact Improvisation Jam is a five and a half day dance event.

Contact Improvisation is an improvisational dance form in which 2 or more people move in and out of physical contact, falling, rolling, lifting and following the forces of gravity, levity and momentum. CI has been described as an artsport – it integrates elements of gymnastics, martial arts, social dance and contemplative practice.

The JAM is created for dancers, by dancers: there will be ample space for participants to investigate, experiment, discuss, present, and above all JAM! Whether you are a long-time teacher or a first-time beginner, the JAM is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in dancing, and to gain perspective on the many ways Contact Improvisation is practiced. This year’s Jam will focus on the theme, “Challenging Assumptions”.

The Jam also features two five-day intensive workshops with Ishmael Houston-Jones and Shel Wagner Rasch, a daily family class with Rossana Alves and Krista DeNio. Single drop in classes will be taught by international and local teachers including, Carol Swann, Daniel Bear Davis, Ezra LeBank, Jordan Fuchs, Jordan Stout, Katherine Cook, Mary Pearson, Megan Lowe, Neige Christenson, Nina Wehnhert, Nuria Bowart, Rajendra Serber, Rosemary Hannon, and Vitali Kononov.
