Week 9 | July 24-28 | Vik Muniz
Brazilian photographer Vik Muniz creates complex collages from materials such as toy soldiers, trash and vintage postcards to recreate iconic artworks, scenes and portraits. Whole Foods Market will provide free healthy snacks for all summer camps.
- Grades K-1 | Trash to Treasure | Annalisa Campbell
Making art out of sugar, sand, scraps of fabric or junk mail … that doesn’t make sense! But we can do it! Campers will have fun as they record their sugar and sand creations with a camera and discover ways to make art out of unlikely materials.
- Grades K-1 & 2-4 | Re-ART: Collaboration Camp | Leslie Hensley and LaRiss Conn
Recycle up together! Campers will construct multiple art pieces using recycled materials and build their very own upcycled instruments. By using everyday found items, campers will work together to explore mixed media and music all while having a blast! There’s no limit on their imagination!
- Grades 2-4 | Foundations of Hip Hop | Angel Little
The Foundations of Hip Hop program is created to educate and empower the culture of hip hop and its primary elements. Participants will engage in the elements of graffiti, DJ-ing, MC-ing and Breaking, as well as learn the dependency between each one. This class offers a basic introduction to the history and inspirations of the culture. It also provides an environment that supports community encouragement, critical understanding and self-motivation.
- Grades 5-6 | Mix-It-Up | Jenny Elton
This camp will explore the art of Vik Muniz as campers create original mixed-media artworks. Campers will explore a variety of materials, from pencils and photographs to fabrics and even leaves and plants. This camp will teach students how ideas and decision-making skills, combined with their imaginations, can create totally original mixed-media art!
- Teen: Grades 7-9 | Just Like Me | Eric Lyons
This class will be an adventure in creating self-portraits in the style of artist Vik Muniz. Muniz is known for his work with diverse mediums — like diamonds, sugar, thread, chocolate syrup and garbage — so students will create multiple portraits using a variety of found materials assembled together. So start collecting your things and bring them back to life, as we journey into portraits that look Just Like Me.
