Week 10 | July 31 – August 4 | Kehinde Wiley

American painter Kehinde Wiley creates large-scale photorealistic portraits often depicting young African-American subjects in heroic poses. His works frequently fuse together bright colors, patterns and art history. Whole Foods Market will provide free healthy snacks for all summer camps.

  • Grades K-1 | Kiddie Classics | Kelly Smith

Young artists will study classic paintings and reimagine them in fun ways just like contemporary artist Kehinde Wiley. Children will dress up as characters from classic paintings, act out the paintings’ events and learn to critically look at an art piece. They’ll also learn printmaking and sculpting skills. Combining art history and contemporary art has never been more fun!

  • Grades K-1 | Portrait Perfect | Autumn Brown

Your camper will have a blast trying out all the different ways they can paint, draw, print and build portraits using repetition and shapes. Using a variety of techniques and mediums, campers will explore how to create portraits and self-portraits. This camp will encourage their imaginations, grow their art skills and make for a picture-perfect week!

  • Grades 5-6 | Hip Hop | Angel Little and Song Kimpton

The Foundations of Hip Hop program is created to educate and empower the culture of hip hop and its primary elements. Participants will engage in the elements of graffiti, DJ-ing, MC-ing and Breaking, as well as learn the dependency between each one. This class offers a basic introduction to the history and inspirations of the culture. It also provides an environment that supports community encouragement, critical understanding and self-motivation.
