RECOMBINANT festival is a showcase of 360-degree spatial cinema and sound, and live audio-visual performances developed in collaboration with Recombinant Media Labs over the last twenty years.

This historic 10-screen CineChamber apparatus at the Gray Area Grand Theater propels audiences into a ‘VR mindset without the headset’; which extends the single viewer platform of virtual and augmented reality into a shared experience of immersive panorama.

After last years California re-launch and Return of Recombinant to the Bay Area after a full decade, RML is presenting two full programs of world premiere CineChamber works:

GONE, GONE BEYOND by People Like Us, MEMENTO STELLA by Makino Takashi, KUROSHIO by Philip Jeck, Michaela Grill, & Karl Lemieux, HYPNOSIS DISPLAY (version) by Grouper and Paul Clipson, and three new pieces by MASAKO TANAKA.

Featuring a full, three-day, residency with MARTIN REV of SUICIDE in person.

Martin Rev plays Solo — Friday, Oct 13th. Powerful live tracks from the last 35 years, plus this year’s “Demolition 9” standouts. Pedestrian Deposit opens along with a special guest to be announced. We will also be joined by audio ingress artist Neha Spellfish.

Martin Rev plays Suicide — Saturday, October 14th. Rev re-customizes the content from the Suicide album archives thru the ages. Daniel Menche and special mystery guest TBA will be opening… and somewhere in the theater, Neha Spellfish will be frequency hexing the space.

Martin Rev talks Suicide — Sunday, October 15th. Marty’s personal amazing tales from the 70’s and beyond in this special interview / show & tell session with Tom Fitzgerald and Marcus Herring.

Opening for Rev will be DANIEL MENCHE and PEDESTRIAN DEPOSIT plus special surprise guests TBA.

Installation for 4 people for 4 minutes by JEFF CAREY — “Precursor to Hypercube” — if you can find it you can go on it! (First come, first served — if you dare…)

Exhibition: MARK McCLOUD’s “Blotter Barn Blizzards” from the Institute of Illegal Images.

Fall of Love Panel talks with ERIK DAVIS and conversations with V.VALE, MARK McCLOUD, NAUT HUMON and others TBA.

OTHER CINEMA with CRAIG BALDWIN presents Nth Dimension — plus SF CINEMATHEQUE film program.

“Death of Hippie” screening of the ’67 Haight Funeral from the Alan Willis Archives.

And for those who missed last years festival we have a RECOMBINANT RECAP 2016 hour with CineChamber Classics by Ryoichi Kurokawa, Biosphere and Egbert Mittelstadt, Christian Fennesz and Lillevan, Scott Arford, and Naut Humon.
