David Leikam Sonic

David Leikam is a San Francisco-based composer-performer and bandleader of the electro-jazz quintet DA5 and debut electro-sonic duo Optic. Being born with cerebral palsy has affected his body and speech, giving him a distinct view into his creative arts/music process and being largely a self-taught multi-instrumentalist.

He has performed and/or recorded with Wadada Leo Smith, Pamela Z, Kidd Jordan, John Bergamo, Eddie Gale, and Muruga Booker.

Jon Raskin has been a member of Rova Saxophone Quartet for over 35 years exploring the relationship of improvisation and composition, developing and honing the language of ensemble music, and researching linguistic possibilities of the saxophone.

He has performed and/or recorded with Anthony Braxton, Fred Frith, Sam Rivers, Tim Berne, Phillip Johnston, Wadada Leo Smith, and Henry Kaiser.

Timothy Orr began playing the drums in 1976 at the age of eight. He studied with Edward Blackwell from 1985-89 at Wesleyan University and has worked in the music industry since then. He has held positions in alternative radio promotion and classical marketing at Virgin Records, publicity at MCA, retail sales at HMV and warehouse and operations management at TVT Records. He spent five years with the Arkadia Jazz label as sales and marketing director, and two-and-a-half years as Associate Director of the Brubeck Institute at University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. He has also been a journalist for DRUM! and Traps magazines from 1993-2008, and has worked with Oakland’s Jazz In Flight from 2002-2004. Timothy joined the Monterey Jazz Festival in 2006, and specializes in marketing, public relations, and communications.

He has performed and/or recorded with Josh Roseman, Stephen Schwartz, Damon Smith, Rent Romus, Josh Allen, and Marco Eneidi.

Patrick Cress was schooled by Donald Walden’s strict jazz theory and Donald Sinta’s brilliant classical mind. It was there that he conceived the concept for Telepathy (baritone saxophone, bass clarinet, upright, drums), his brainchild, after heavy influences of Ornette Coleman and Tim Berne. Founded in March 2002, Telepathy has recorded three albums, as well as performed both nationally and internationally. The group features some of the Bay Area’s finest musicians and has played for diverse audiences from San Francisco’s Bruno’s and ODC Theater, Berkeley’s Jazz House, to L.A.’s the Mint, Santa Monica’s Temple Bar to Portland’s Mt. Tabor Theater and Vancouver’s Sugar Refinery.

KZSU Wednesday Night Live continues its umpteenth season, bringing you the best bands around the bay, playing live in your radio. Tune in each week to hear a new local bay-area artist each Wednesday at 9PM, PT.
