Wayne Grim:

Born in Baltimore, Wayne Grim studied music at The University of Maryland and Mills College in Oakland California. He currently curates and produces sound works for the Exploratorium in San Francisco.

Grim is a sound artist, musician, composer, and improviser. His work with acoustic and electronic instruments, computers and sound objects explores worlds between beauty and failure

His work spans a variety of areas, generative music, spontaneous composition, non-western musical techniques, improvisation, durational works, minimalism, noise, conceptual art, and the sonification of scientific phenomena. Most recently he created a musical Sonification for the August 21st, 2017 Total Solar Eclipse featuring the Kronos Quartet.

Rachel Smith:

Originally from Texas, Rachel Smith is an audio-visual artist who performs as one-half of the experimental, electroacoustic-folk duo, The Lickets, recording & releasing this and other work under the International Corporation umbrella with her partner Mitch Greer.

She creates work ranging from repetitive chaos, drone and ambient soundscapes to dancey new wave inspired electronics.

Michael Gendreau:

Michael Gendreau has composed and performed solo as well as in several group configurations since 1979. His former group, Crawling With Tarts (1983 – 1998), expressed ideas within elementalism and pre-language states. Gendreau has elaborated on this while adding concepts inspired by his studies of physics, parataxis, philosophies centered on temporal and environmental persistence; and his experiments with small motors and turntable mechanisms. Performances have involved one-off transcription discs cast by others in the middle of the last century, and those cut in his studio using a decrepit lathe. More recently, Gendreau has sought to extend these studies, while experimenting with the use of a building as a speaker. He records infrasonic vibrations of a performance space, then in the concert, he uses the structure’s resonances as an additional instrument in his site-specific compositions. These practices are based in part on his current work as an acoustician working primarily on low-vibration and noise design for buildings. Gendreau has performed these site-specific compositions in locations around the world: Valencia, Spain; Paris, France; Athens, Greece; Lausanne, Switzerland; and others.

Thomas Dimuzio:

San Francisco-based Thomas Dimuzio is one of those unsung artistic figures whose influence and abilities have substantially outstripped his visibility. Composer, collaborator, experimental electronic musician, multi-instrumentalist, improvisor, sound designer and mastering engineer – Dimuzio has been busy doing his thing(s) since the late 1980’s, but is still only known to a small circle of electronic music enthusiasts. A true sonic alchemist who can seemingly create music events out of almost anything, Dimuzio’s listed sound sources on his various releases include everything from “modified 10 speed bicycle” and “resonating water pipe” to short-wave radios, field recordings, loops, samplers and even normal instruments such as clarinet and trumpet. And while his wide range of musical interests make it impossible to pin a label on him, Dimuzio clearly has an insider’s knowledge of older experimental musical forms such as musique concrete and electroacoustic, as well as more current dark ambient, noise and post-techno styles.

Dimuzio’s pioneering and innovative use of live sampling, synthesis, signal processing, custom crossfade looping and algorithmic mixing fuels a synergy of man and machine in his live performances. Intercepted signal feeds from his collaborators, as well as wild sources of MIDI-controlled feedback, modular synthesizers, circuit-bent toys, ambient microphones on the streets, et al become integrated as sound sources within Dimuzio’s system of live interactive electronics. His music has been released internationally on labels including RéR Megacorp, RRRecords, Asphodel, No Fun Productions, Seeland, Isounderscore, Gench, Record Label Records, Odd Size Records, Sonoris and Melon Expander. Dimuzio’s studio-based releases include his critically acclaimed (All Music Guide Pick) debut LP HEADLOCK, his double CD masterwork Sonicism, potent early cassette works detailed on Louden, and Slew, his compilation of compilation tracks spanning 14 years. His live releases Mono::Poly, Markoff Process, and Gench Concert Archives document a large number of his solo concerts.
