A Stage of Our Own (ASOO) presents a compilation of short works by Philippine and Pacific Island voices expressing UNITY and celebrating collective resilience. “Unity” presents solidarity through ancestral and cultural connection– rooted in tradition and manifested in contemporary times– through dance, music, film, poetry, and visual installation.

This is ASOO’s third installation focused on utilizing the creative arts for healing and empowerment. Founded in Honolulu in 2017, and making its way to Los Angeles, ASOO’s performances are Pacific and Philippine contemporary voices in their societies, and their manifestations of continuing their cultural practices wherever in the world they stand.

An open Silat workshop will precede the performances. Workshop begins at 7:15PM and is led by Guro Alvin Catacutan and Nikki Mae Martin.

A conversation with the artists will follow the performance.

A Stage of Our Own (ASOO) features collaborative works by Toni Pasion (producer and curator), Leolani Gallardo and Te Aho Nui, Mariquita Micki Davis, Vero Mercado, Leilani Banday, Noelle Marie Falcis, Kawai Lele, Paru Frances, Leah Ramos, Abe Lagrimas Jr., and Jonathan Godoy. ASOO is a Philippine and Pacific Island collective of artists, organizers, educators, and researchers, creating contemporary works of their cultural heritages and diaspora experiences.
