Percussion great John Santos and his longstanding sextet return with a performance devoted to the Afro-Caribbean song styles born of the region’s colonial history of resistance against slavery and oppression. This show perticularly honors Puerto Rico and its continued legacy of musicians who have defined their art through progressive movements of social change, whose timeless songs offer hope, courage, clarity and love in times of distress. Some of today’s greatest Puerto Rican artists of different generations direct from the island and the diaspora are among the legendary musicians who will join John onstage as well as Cuban living legend, Orestes Vilató.
John Santos has been at the center of the Bay Area’s Latin music scene for nearly four decades.
