Beautifully Grotesque: The Life of Valeska Gert is biographical dance theatre that tells the story of avant-garde actor/dancer Valeska Gert. Known for her wild, anti-bourgeois, anarchic, expressionist dance solos, Gert challenged her audiences with realistic portrayals of people and culture from 1920s Berlin. Collard embodies Gert, re-creating some of her early solos. This performance resurrection is a tribute to one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, of which few have ever heard.
Janet Collard is a dancer, actor, singer, and choreographer from the San Francisco Bay Area. Her love of live performance was sparked at a very young age, starting in the ballet studio then continuing into the worlds of music and theater.
