Ghost in the House

The music of Ghost In The House is a soundtrack for the subconscious. It could suggest a murder mystery, a visitation in a dream or a cataclysmic storm. The scores are sketches that depict musical events to be interpreted by the band.

Bruce Ackley was born in Rochester, New York in 1948. Following in his father’s footsteps, he began singing in choral groups at age 10. (His father performed in a vocal sextet as a young man in the 1930s.) Bruce sang throughout his school years and finally took up the saxophone in 1970. He formed his first improvising trio that year with friends from his art school days at Wayne State in Detroit, where he studied painting and drawing. In 1971 he relocated to the Bay Area.

Dance artist Christina Braun’s choreography is influenced by her deep appreciation of Isadora Duncan technique and repertory and Butoh dance. She is inspired by classical and experimental music. Her work, always in collaboration with a musician, has been presented regularly since her 2002 evening length debut of “PeaceDreams”. Her long term collaboration with instrument inventor Tom Nunn produces intriguing structured improvisations. Christina has performed with Mary Sano and her Duncan Dancers, Koichi and Hiroko Tamano’s Harupin Ha, and Katsura Kan for over a decade.
