The Lab is open to performers from different creative genres and techniques inspired by Physical Theatre as a bold, vibrant and multidimensional approach to contemporary theatre performance. The program is designed for experienced dancers, actors of physical theatre, contemporary circus performers, choreographers and directors – performing arts practitioners with professional stage experience working in various genres, techniques and styles – interested to find new international network opportunities and collaborators.

The programme includes the intensive practical training, lectures and discussions with the theatre director and teacher Sergei Ostrenko and the programme of IUGTE annual International Conference with performing arts teachers from different countries.

Ostrenko Lab Program

The Lab programme is focused on Ostrenko’s method of actor’s training, relying on the Russian Theatre Tradition and the newest experiments in performing arts. Performer’s physicality in the methods of Stanislavsky, Meyerhold and M. Chekhov, principles of Meyerhold’s Biomechanics, Tai-chi for performers, Training by method of improvisation, scene composition from exercises to performance: these are some of the elements uniquely transformed and combined in Ostrenko’s teaching system to suit performers, directors and teachers contemporary needs. Participants will practically explore performer’s physicality as the principal creative instrument, the key to form, style, atmosphere and emotional palette in contemporary performance, stepping beyond the limits of habitual text-based acting.

Practical sessions develop in the form of various exercises which progress from simple to compound. Gradually the group is proceeding to group improvisations and structures. Every day is setting advanced creative tasks, developing the preceding steps. Through the system of consecutive exercises the group is growing common language and trust, ability to collaborate and create together.

Conference Program

Practical workshops, presentations, works-in-progress, lectures and discussions with performing arts teachers from different countries. Please follow the news of the programme.

The schedule is designed so that participants will be able to take part in all events of the programme – the Lab and the Conference.

IUGTE Lab and Conference offer a great opportunity to approach a unique methodological and practical material that will enrich your professional skills and will offer you the possibility to share an intense creative experience at a global level!

The working language is English.

  • Participation fee is 550 EUR (early bird reduced fee) / 650 EUR .
  • The fee covers participation in all events of the programme – practical training, lectures and discussions with S. Ostrenko and the full conference program.

The official arrival day for the Lab group is Thursday, December 13.

December 13:

  • 13:00 / 1PM Group arrival and check-in.
  • 16:50-17:00 / 4:50-5PM Programme Coordinator meets the group. Short tour around the Castle.
  • 17:00-18:00 / 5-6PM First group meeting and introduction.
  • 18:00-19:00 / 6-7PM Dinner.

December 14, 15, 16:

December 17:

  • Conference program: practical workshops, presentations, works-in-progress, lectures and discussions.
  • The conference program will run full day with breaks for meals. The registered participants will receive the detailed daily schedule.

December 21:

  • 7:30-9:00 / 7:30-9AM Breakfast
  • 9:00 / 9AM Check-out and departure.

Accommodation

  • The accommodation for the participants is organized at the guest house of the beautiful 15th century refurbished Retzhof Castle in the landscape of natural beauty in Leitring bei Leibnitz, Austria.
  • The group will stay and practice all together in the same venue.
  • The meals are also organized at Retzhof Castle restaurant.
