Interminacy celebrates the un-caging of John Cage. An homage inspired by Cage’s Indeterminacy, recorded in 1959, with David Tudor. Tender Buttons accompanies Cage stories with Tania Chen on piano, toys and objects, Tom Djll playing trumpet and analogue synth and Gino Robair on percussion and analogue synth.

In 1990 a friend of mine who worked at KPFA at the time came across a curious artifact in their archives. It was a reel-to-reel tape marked “CAGE – NOT FOR AIRPLAY.” It was apparently a set of Cage’s little zen-inspired stories, never heard or published anywhere. When my friend shared a cassette copy of these stories with me, many years later, I was astounded. I knew then that these precious, delicate flowers of John Cage’s unique and sensitive artistry had to somehow be given to the world. Now, through the good auspices of the Octopus Literary Salon and Tender Buttons, a fully fleshed-out and musically appropriate accompaniment has been fashioned for the “lost” Cage stories, to be presented at the time and place listed above. — Richard Colostametz
