A L’arme Festival – Bill Laswell Presents: Laurie Anderson and Method of Defiance – collision and short circuits.
Contrary, defiant, disobedient. Bill Laswell likes resistance, but that doesn’t mean he defines his music based on what he is against. Given his openness to an immense variety of influences (and a good portion of stubbornness), he played a constructive role in the electrifying chaos of the New York scene at the end of the 70s and beginning of the 80s. Laswell developed his main tenet then, and it continues to guide him today: nothing is right; everything is allowed. His ‘collision music’ philosophy relies on creative short circuits. He has produced albums for Iggy Pop and Yoko Ono, worked together with Herbie Hancock and Peter Brötzmann, with William S. Burroughs and with drum and bass DJs. For the first time ever, Method Of Defiance, Laswell’s latest collision ensemble together with a group of comrades-in-arms, will be performing together with Laurie Anderson in Berlin.
Method of Defiance – A futuristic hybrid of music exploration – dub, drum’n’bass, reggae, experimental, ambient, mutant hip hop.
