“The past and promise of American music” (Rolling Stone), Preservation Hall Jazz Band is a true New Orleans institution that defines the tradition of Crescent City music. This performance, filmed during Summer Sessions in August 2019, includes music from across their career along with songs from their 2018 album A Tuba For Cuba – a recording inspired by the band’s 2015 visit to the island nation that traces the rich musical and cultural connections between New Orleans and Cuba. Guest vocalist Eme Alfonso, who appears on A Tuba For Cuba, joins the band for this special show — the band’s first at SFJAZZ since taking part in SFJAZZ Gala 2018 honoring Chucho Valdés.
