Presenting an exhibit of paintings by the Bay Area’s prominent Plein Air group, the Outsiders. A group of painters whose colorful, Fauvist style relates back to such groups as the Society of Six, the Fauves and other colorist schools.

Featuring

  • Nikki Basch-Davis
  • Ray Jackson
  • William Rushton
  • Randy Sexton
  • Jerrold Turner
  • Judy Molyneux
  • Pam Glover, in memorium

No one can quite remember exactly when the artists, who’d known each other casually for years, decided to organize regular outings to paint outdoors together and give themselves a name. It doesn’t really matter, though. What matters is that through marriages and divorces, births and deaths, the Outsiders — Nikki Basch-Davis, Ray Jackson, William Rushton, Randy Sexton, Jerrold Turner and Judy Molyneux — have continued to be a huge influence in each other’s lives and art. And in memoriam, group member, artist Pam Glover’s work will also be included.

These artists continue the revival of a Bay Area tradition of painting outdoors. Although they inspire and stimulate each other, their styles are quite different. Within California’s plein-air painting community, they also stand out: instead of capturing California’s spectacularly beautiful coastal and mountain scenes, they often paint urban scenes populated by people, parking lots and cars, historic mining towns, fallow fields and foothills.
