As a way to recognize and extend a supportive network for innovative practices and approaches to electronic music, Platforms will emphasize women who have deeply contributed to advancing our society and those who continue to do so through recording, installation and live performances.

L Lewis: Lucy Lewis aka LLEWIS is an artist and musician based in Providence and New York. She creates hardware-generated noise mixed with textural, mid-tempo beats. The mixer is central instrumentation for her long form sonic explorations. Since 2010 Lucy has performed at a variety of venues throughout the US and Canada. Her solo release “OX” is available on Primitive Languages with more releases soon to come. Lucy is a founding member of the Opensignal collective.

Ohal Grietzer: A pianist and composer based in New York. She produces and performs electronic music using samples, synthesizers, and voice. Her debut album as a solo artist, Acid Park, will be released in 2016. She recently scored the film Cancelled Faces, which premiered at the 2015 Berlin Film Festival.

Marina Rosenfeld: A composer and artist based in New York. She’s performed as an experimental turntablist since the late ’90s, working mostly with hand-crafted dub plates, alongside collaborators from Christian Marclay, to Warrior Queen, to Merce Cunningham Dance Company. Rosenfeld’s work has been presented in numerous biennials, festivals and museums, including solo projects for the Museum of Modern Art, Park Avenue Armory and Whitney Museum in New York, Stejdelijk Museum, Tate Modern, Serralves Foundation, and Wien Modern, SPOR and Holland festivals, among many others. She teaches at Bard College, where she co-chairs the MFA program in Music/Sound.

M.V. Carbon: A Brooklyn based composer and sound artist who is recognized for her non-traditional approach to music. She plays cello and other stringed instruments through electronics, and uses tape machines, vocals, electronic processes, analog synthesis, frequency, tone, and imagery in live performances. She started her music career in Chicago with projects such as the electronic noise duo, Metalux (Hanson, Load, Rampage, 5RC) and the mysterious shrouded 4 piece known as Bride of No No. (Atavistic Records). She relocated to the New York City area in 2005 and has continued writing and performing with Metalux (MV Carbon and Jenny Gräf Sheppard), while focusing on her solo work. Carbon’s solo record The Dislodged Perihelion is released on Ecstatic Peace (US), and her forthcoming LP, The Sun Will Turn on You, is set to be released on Discombobulate Records (UK) this fall. Carbon has collaborated with artists including Aki Onda, Audrey Chen, Brian Chase, C. Spencer Yeh, Carlos Giffoni, Charlemagne Palestine, Evan Parker, Henrik Rylander, John Edwards, John Wiese, Larry 7, Lesley Flannigan, Maria Chavez, Mario Diaz de Leon, Nick Zinner, Okkyung Lee, Shelly Hirsh, Tony Conrad, Twig Harper, Zach Layton, and many more. Her composition work has been premiered at St. Anne’s Church in Brooklyn, by the String Orchestra of Brooklyn and at Roulette with Emily Manzo on piano. She has received support from The Jerome Foundation, Roulette (NY), Issue Project Room (NY), The Clocktower Gallery (NY), and The City of Chicago Cultural Affairs (IL). She has performed in the U.S. and internationally in venues including The Metropolitan Museum of Art (NY), PS1 Moma (NY), The Guggenheim BMW Lab (NY), The Copenhagen Music Theater (DK), ULU (UK), Nefertiti Jazz Club (SE), Socrates Sculpture Park (NY), The Stone (NY), Performa 2011 (NY), The Sage (UK), Casa Des Artes, (PT), Worm (NL). Carbon is also is a painter and sculptor and runs a clothing line called Lifted Myth.

Jenn Grossman: An electronic composer and sound installation artist living in Brooklyn. First saxophonist and sculptor, sound art has been an intuitive discovery for her, propelling her current focus on multichannel sound/music installations, vocal explorations, public sound interventions, and collaborative composing and sound designing for film and movement artists. Interests include a psychological, affect-based approach to artistic creation: the ability of the sonic arts to heighten emotional, social, and sensory awareness, animate daily objects, blur inner and outer realities, and engage us in active modes of perception from the art gallery to the street. She has installed works and participated in experimental performances in venues such as Harvestworks, the Knockdown Center, Open Source Gallery, Reverse Gallery, and the New York Transit Museum, for the Deep Listening Conference’s Cistern Dream session, Vox Novus’s 60×60 surround sound mix, the OPENSIGNAL festival, Bushwick Open Studios, the Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival and Hairpin Arts Center in Chicago, and in public transitory spaces like park tunnels, garbage cans, and stairwells.

Maria Chavez: Born in Lima, Peru, Maria Chávez is mainly known as an abstract turntablist, sound artist & DJ based in NYC.Influenced in improvisation in contemporary art, her work expands outside of the sound world, straddling different disciplines of interest. In 2012, Chavez wrote and illustrated Of Technique: Chance Procedures on Turntable, a how-to manual for those interested in learning the abstract turntablism techniques that she developed with the turntable during performance. An endorsed Moog artist, Maria recently signed with Software Recordings, a record label founded by Oneohtrix Point Never (Daniel Lopatin) and is due to release her first full length LP in a decade, some time in early 2016. Chavez has DJ’d for MoMA, MoMA PS1, fashion house Bimba y Lola and more. Currently she is a research fellow for the Sound Arts department at Goldsmith’s University of London until 2017. She was recently awarded the St. Luke’s Chamber Ensemble commission 2015 where she presented a new sound piece, NY Sonic Scores 2015, at the Brooklyn Museum and Morgan Library in May. She was an artist in residence at INKONST Arts in Malmö, Sweden, curator in residence with Cafe OTO, OTO Projects & Electra Productions in London, UK.In 2015, Maria has been in residencies for Klangraum Residency, Austria, EMS Elektronmusikstudion in Stockholm, Sweden and the Kitchen in NYC where she presented a large scale multi-channel sound installation, Sound Bleed @ the Kitchen.

This fall Maria will participate in the upcoming festivals: Blow Out (Oslo), Equinox Festival (Florence), LUFF Festival in (Lausanne, Switzerland) & present her abstract turntablism workshop for the Espai Contemporary Museum in Castelló, Spain among other events in Europe.
