Journey across continents and languages in a wide-ranging and powerful exploration of migration. A complement to Washington Performing Arts’ Dreamers special production and 2018/19 Latinx in D.C. programming, this afternoon of song and spoken word contemplates notions of home, yearning, displacement, and hope.

Works by Javier Álvarez, Leonard Bernstein, Joel Phillip Friedman, Carlos Guastavino, Ernesto Lecuona, Ned Rorem, Roberto Sierra, Hugo Wolf, and more.

This event is one of several activities throughout the winter and spring that are curated by the Mars Urban Arts Initiative in partnership with the GALA Hispanic Theatre and Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School to expand the conversation around our Sunday, March 17, 2019 special production: Simulcast: Dreamers featuring the Philharmonia Orchestra.

  • How Does the World Fall Into Place? from the chamber opera Fallings (a Work-In-Progress) for mezzo-soprano and piano
  • Music: Joel Phillip Friedman
  • Libretto: Seth Friedman

Co-presented by Washington Performing Arts and All Souls Church Unitarian.

Washington Performing Arts’ Mars Urban Arts Initiative is generously supported by Jacqueline Badger Mars and Mars, Incorporated. This performance is made possible by Tom Gallagher, in honor of Turnaround Inc., and Events DC. It is part of Washington Performing Arts’ global programming initiative, The World in Our City: Latinx in D.C., which provides perspective on what it means to be a citizen of the world through a unique arts-based lens.
