This trio have a collective and individual history that spans three decades and many continents. They have recorded as acclaimed duo records and performed up and down the west coast as a trio. While the members have been active in pairs in numerous ensembles, this is their first set of performances as a trio in nearly 20 years. Their approach to free improvisation is to explore the many genres of music they are known for, which spans rock, metal, funk, jazz, post-classical and film music. Expect the level of excitement to be high – these musicians are ecstatic to be working together again as a unit and are ready to deliver that joy to their audiences.

Scott Amendola – was born in Englewood, New Jersey. Studied at Berklee college of music, and lives in the bay area. He composed a symphony called “Fade To Orange” which features Mr. Dunn, and guitarist Nels cline (with whom he’s played music with since the mid 90’s, and is a member of “The Nels Cline Singers” along with Trevor). As a sideman, Amendola has performed and recorded with a vast, stylistically varied roster of artists, including Bill Frisell, John Zorn, Mike Patton, Mondo Cane, John Scofield, Cibo Matto, John Dieterich from Deerhoof, Wadada Leo Smith, Bruce Cockburn, Madeleine Peyroux, Joan Osborne, Jacky Terrasson, Shweta Jhaveri, Phil Lesh, Sex Mob, Kelly Joe Phelps, Larry Klein, Carla Bozulich, Wayne Horvitz, Johnny Griffin, Julian Priester, Sonny Simmons, Pat Martino, Jim Campilongo, Bobby Black, Larry Goldings, Paul McCandless, Rebecca Pidgeon, and the Joe Goode Dance Group.

Trevor Dunn – hails from Eureka, California. The son of a mother and father. At an early age Mr. Dunn found himself playing clarinet. Thank the lord he found the bass. Once he realized there was no clarinet player in Kiss, he permanently relocated his musical endeavors to the bass guitar, which eventually lead to the stand-up bass. He leads various bands: from the effervescent “Trio Convulsant”, to the angular-pop/rock of “Madlove”. He’s a co-founding member of the confounding “Mr. Bungle”, and has been seen many times around the globe with the various ensembles of Mr. John Zorn. Trevor has also been caught bowling with “The Melvins”.

Phillip Greenlief – Since his emergence on the west coast in the late 1970s, Evander Music founder and saxophonist Phillip Greenlief has achieved international critical acclaim for his recordings and performances with musicians and composers in the post-jazz continuum as well as new music innovators and virtuosic improvisers. He has performed and recorded with Wadada Leo Smith, Meredith Monk, Rashaun Mitchell and They Might Be Giants; albums include THAT OVERT DESIRE OF OBJECT with Joelle Leandre, and ALL AT ONCE with FPR (Frank Gratkowski, Jon Raskin, PG). Now celebrating the release of LANTSKAP LOGIC with Fred Frith and Evelyn Davis on Clean Feed (2019). Recent residencies have included Headlands Center for the Arts and the Banff Center for the Arts. His critical writing has been published in Artforum, SFMOMA’s OPEN SPACE, and Signal to Noise.

The Uptown is located just around the corner from the 19th Street BART Station and is wheelchair accessible.
