We’re back and start our fall season early, welcoming two amazing groups to SF Live Arts at Cyprian’s! Smokeshow and The Clearwings each bring an exciting new sound to SF Live Arts that you definitely won’t want to miss.
Smokeshow members Vivian Cook and Ellie DiBerardino met in a college black box production of “Spring Awakening,” where Ellie played bass and Vivian played Ilse. Five years later, their work as an indie folk duo retains the adolescent angst and theatrical flair of that fateful rock musical, but with the added flavor of quarter-life-crisis, and a certain “je ne sais the “rents too damn high.” Smokeshow has graced the stages of Hotel Cafe and The Independent, and surfed the airwaves at KZSC. Their debut album, Bomb Songs, produced by George Rosenthal (who will be featured on drums for this performance) was recorded at The Complex in SF and released in January 2018.
Tweaking genres, the indie folk duo, The Clearwings brings a modern edge to a classic folk sensibility. With Raven Adams – vocals and Mark Phillips – guitar, vocals they present raw, intimate, unencumbered music with surprising depth. In addition to an ever-growing catalogue of originals, the band continues to craft new arrangements of eclectic covers, distilling a wide range of sounds to their melodic core.
