ONLINE BROADCAST

Performing on gut strings with period instruments and bows; dedicated to performing classical and early romantic repertoire.

Praised for their “sweet sound” (Capriccio Baroque), The Cramer Quartet captivates audiences with an immersive, multi-dimensional approach to string quartet playing. With gut strings, period instruments, and an invigorating historically informed approach, the quartet brings uncommon warmth, transparency, and texture to music of the Classical and early Romantic eras, as well as music of the present day. An essential part of the quartet’s mission is to tell the stories of those underrepresented in today’s classical music world – including the voices of women, gender-nonconforming individuals, persons of color, immigrants, trans and hybrid identities.

Over the years, countless harpsichords have been tuned, hundreds of music stands placed onstage, and thousands of audience members have embraced the talent and grace of SoHIP’s summer series musicians. In our three decades of presenting the region’s best early musicians, we have presented nearly 600 concerts by over 100 different ensembles.
