Inspired by the lyrics “Wade in the water, God’s gonna trouble the water,” the musicians of the avant-gospel Trouble Ensemble enter into musical conversation that creates, listens to, reveres and questions, the melody, rhythm and text derived from spirituals, (and other songs they inspired). We revel in enjoying, discovering and making trouble.

Our first album “In the Water” is released this month! Come celebrate, and be among the first to own one of the only avant-gospel albums ever made.

Trouble Ensemble will perform a live set of arrangements by pianist and creator Andrew Jamieson. Collaborator Marvin K. White, a poet, artist, teacher, collaborator, preacher, cake baker, and Facebook Statustician, puts this vision into words in his spoken poetry during Trouble Ensemble performances, featuring the voices of Ernest Larkins, violinist Mia Bella D’Augelli, saxophonists Rent Romus and Joshua Marshall, guitarists Jakob Pek and Roger Kim, and percussionists Tim DeCillis and Jordan Glenn.

He is currently on staff as the Gospel Choir Director at Madonna University in Livonia, MI and Michigan State University Community Music School in Detroit, MI and is the Assistant Conductor of the Willis C.
