Harman Projects is pleased to present Mercy of the Mundane, the debut solo exhibition by San Francisco based artist Zachary Oldenkamp.

Creating soft, intimate drawings in monochrome, Oldenkamp captures the quiet moments of everyday life. Mercy of the Mundane presents a series of recent drawings illustrating commonplace objects and places which exude a feeling of peace. Oldenkamp believes that within this peace we are able to meditate, recharge, and ultimately develop our best ideas.

Pictured above, The First Breath You Take, depicts a woman in the bathroom gathering up her hair in a ponytail. With her back to the viewer, she is unaware of the viewer’s gaze, and she goes about her morning routine undisturbed by the outside world, existing within a quiet moment.

With the absence of color the artist is able to focus on lighting and atmosphere, expressing the calm, self-reflective nature of each moment, while at the same time leaving room for the viewer’s interpretation. By cropping tightly on the subject, the artist eliminates the larger setting that has been a staple of his work in recent years, intensifying the intimate nature of the setting.

Please join us Saturday, August 6 from 4 PM to 7 PM for the opening of Mercy of the Mundane. The artist will be in attendance. In order to ensure the health and safety of visitors and staff, please note that masks are required for entry.
