ONLINE BROADCAST (Recorded: JUN 19, 2018)
“A Brazilian-born genius with a blistering voice” (JazzTimes), the dynamic Rio-born artist Claudia Villela has developed a reputation as a singularly unique singer, pianist and composer, lending her five-octave voice to work with jazz luminaries Kenny Werner, Michael Brecker and Toots Thielemans. Villela began singing professionally as a teen and moved to the Bay Area before crossing the country for studies with the legendary Sheila Jordan at the Manhattan School of Music. She returned as an artist on a mission to create fresh, original music born of her Brazilian upbringing and passion for jazz.
Villela has been a regular performer at SFJAZZ, and devoted this June 2019 evening to the music of the supreme Brazilian songsmith Antônio Carlos Jobim, featuring the GRAMMY-nominated guitarist Chico Pinheiro as a special guest.
